The short answer

First sales associate renewal: 45-hour sales post-licensing. First broker renewal: 60-hour broker post-licensing. Complete the right education and renew through DBPR.

On this page

Sales associates: 45 hours.

Complete approved sales post-licensing before the initial expiration date on your sales associate license. A 14-hour CE course does not satisfy this requirement.

Your first renewal period is typically 18–24 months. Use the actual expiration date on your DBPR record rather than assuming you have two full years from the day you pass.

Brokers: 60 hours.

Complete approved broker post-licensing before the initial broker expiration date. It may be organized as two 30-hour courses. This obligation follows the broker license even if you previously completed sales post-licensing.

Complete the education. Then complete the renewal.

  1. Check the license type and initial expiration date. Start with your DBPR account.
  2. Pass the correct post-licensing course. Save your completion certificate.
  3. Check the reporting details. Make sure your school has your correct name and license number. Post credit may not display like ordinary CE hours.
  4. Renew and pay DBPR. School completion and reporting do not pay your renewal fee.
  5. Verify the resulting license status. Keep both the school certificate and renewal confirmation.

Post-licensing exemptions.

A qualifying four-year or higher degree in real estate can provide an education exemption. Confirm it with DBPR. Attorney status alone does not exempt a licensee from post-licensing.

Remaining inactive or not making sales does not, by itself, remove the first-renewal education obligation.

If you miss the post-licensing deadline.

Failure to complete required post-licensing by the initial deadline makes the license null and void. Ordinary CE is not a substitute. Contact DBPR promptly about the route that fits your facts, including any qualifying hardship request.
